Recommendations for cleaning marble countertops

The fact that the marble countertops are polished, limit their porosity, preventing further filtering of the stain on the natural stone. Still, we must act quickly against stains to minimize risks.

An important factor to keep in mind when cleaning the marble countertop is its composition. Since marble is made of calcium carbonate, this makes it sensitive to acidic solutions. Therefore, the use of vinegar and lemon is not recommended. Failing that, we can use neutral soaps whose pH is between 7 and 10.

Through clean cloth, warm water and the soapy solution we can gently rub the stained surface until it disappears. We can also do the same for daily maintenance.

On the other hand, it is not recommended to use metal utensils to avoid scratching the marble countertop, achieving greater durability of the material, as explained in article  10 advantages of marble countertops.

Types of stains and how to clean them

Depending on the type of stain, it will determine how to clean the marble countertops or rather, with what solution.

  • Common stains: If the stains are rust, wine, coffee or soft drinks, we can clean the counter with pure hydrogen peroxide vol.100 and then rinse with plenty of water and neutral soap.
  • Oil and grease stains: In this case, we recommend using specific products that absorb this type of stain.

In both cases, remember to act quickly.

If what we want is to prevent stains on our countertop, we can use a waterproof protector. The main function of this product is to prevent natural stone from absorbing the stain.
