Interior Decoration: Plants That Do Not Need Sun

Have you considered adding more green to your home? And we are not talking about painting, but about including a little plant in your decoration! This is a very simple and pleasurable way to offer more warmth, energy and fresh air to the environment without further investment, regardless of whether your corner is a spacious house or a small apartment.

But this requires two things: willingness and affection to take care of them. Some say that watering, pruning and fertilizing your seedling is excellent therapy, and even if your routine is hectic, you can choose a species that requires little care.

Houses with large spaces can use and abuse pots of different sizes scattered throughout the rooms. Apartments with more limited sizes can gain a beautiful vertical garden or simply add a unique but very special vase. Below you will learn about the right species to include in interior decoration, and with comments from architect and landscape designer Stella Pongiluppi, you will learn how to take care of each one, and what is the right place to keep them indoors.

Aglaonema

“Better known as lounge coffee, it reaches 40 centimeters and needs land rich in organic matter and always very well irrigated. Does not support cold weather. Inflorescence without ornamental importance, however, the fruits are showy and decorative ”.

Anturia

“Originally from Colombia, the size varies between 30 centimeters and 1 meter high. Does not tolerate very cold temperatures. The most common flowers are white, red and pink. It thrives best in hot, humid regions. ”

Tree of happiness

“The tree of happiness is a woody bush. The female with thin leaves can reach 2.50 meters in height, while the male with oval leaves grows to 5 meters. It rarely blooms in Brazil. The species can receive regular pruning for foliage containment, great for shade beds. It needs fertile land and medium irrigation. ”

Azalea

“Azalea should be grown in bright places, ideally getting some sunshine directly every day, so they are perfect for north-facing balconies. Its flowers come in autumn-winter, in a wide variety of colors and textures (smooth and bent). Even in winter, it loses its foliage (deciduous plants do this to decrease water loss). Pruning can only be done after the flowering period and is important for foliage renewal and formation of new shoots. The ideal soil type is acidic, well-fertilized and regularly watered. It is a toxic species, not suitable for houses and apartments with animals ”.
