Made up of slats of wood-derived materials in varying widths and lengths, laminate flooring is known for its ease of installation and maintenance. Roberto Bertin, a Eucafloor technical assistance supervisor, emphasizes that, due to this simplicity, “it is possible to maintain its aesthetic characteristics, valuing its patterns and textures”.

Laminate floor maintenance

As it does not require much care in the maintenance, the use of brooms with soft bristles or a vacuum cleaner is enough to remove the dust that accumulates on a daily basis, according to Roberto. This cleaning can be done approximately once a week.

“For a more thorough cleaning, just using a cloth dampened with water and a neutral pH detergent, or alcohol, is enough”, explains the specialist. In addition to the squeegee, it is also possible to use a mop to clean the floor, as long as it is well twisted. This heavier cleaning can be done every two weeks, for example.

No wax or homemade mixes

Some products on the market should not be used to care for laminate flooring. It’s the case of wax! According to Carlos Ximenes, from Casa Fortaleza Comércio de Tecidos, this type of flooring comes with a surface waterproofing layer called an overlay, which eliminates the need for all types of wax to shine.

“When this type of product is used, the floor just looks blurry and can be damaged more quickly”, emphasizes Carlos.

Also, don’t resort to homemade recipes that can stain the laminate floor. “Plenty of water, sodium bicarbonate and cleaning products that contain silicone in the formula should not be used in any way, as well as electric polishers and steel sponges”, reinforces the specialist.

Heavy cleaning

We know that the ideal is to take care of the maintenance of the floor, preventing stains from forming. However, accidents happen! Therefore, Roberto Bertin recommends some products that should be used to clean certain dirt. Check out:

  • Grape juice, wine, coffee, soda, lipstick: neutral detergent in pH or alcohol diluted in water;
  • Nail polish and glue: nail polish remover;
  • Ballpoint pen: 70% alcohol;
  • Paint, varnish, and grease: turpentine or cleaning thinner (removed next!);
  • Wax or dirt that is difficult to remove: ammonia base (three spoons per liter of water).
