How to Clean a Tower Fan

Posted on

The small surface of the tower fans and the height of the cooling wind make them useful for small spaces. As regular fans, tower-style fans collect a lot of dust with use. While regular fans are typically designed to be disassembled for cleaning, most tower fans are problematic to clean with a vacuum and cloth the way most manufacturers recommend. With a few simple tools, you can clean and keep the tower fans so that a cool breeze doesn\’t have to mean a dusty house or office.

Step 1

Place the tower fan in front of you, disconnected, in a safe area to clean. Wear goggles and mask to keep dust and debris out of your eyes and lungs during the cleaning process.

Step 2

Unscrew the panel by removing the screws if the model has a panel. If yours doesn\’t have a dashboard, go to step 3. Place the screws in the small container that places the panel and bowl to one side.

Step 3

Shake the compressed air can for 30 seconds. If you are using an air compressor, apply the blower nozzle and turn on the air compressor, allowing you to increase the pressure for the time recommended by the manufacturer (typically from 30 seconds to two minutes).

Step 4

Use compressed air to blow dust from the panels, pointing not only to flat surfaces but at accessible visible cracks, starting at the top of the fan and working its way down.

Step 5
Rotate the fan tower 180 degrees. Use a brush to clean the remaining dust and dirt on the fan. If you have to remove a panel, put the panel back in place and reassure it with the screws. Turn on the fan and turn it on.
